After a tough preseason, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels opened the 2023 soccer season Thursday evening in Elkton. Barren County’s Hadley Adams scored three times as the Trojanettes got by the Lady Rebels 3-1.
Adams scored her first goal of the night just 30 seconds into the match as Barren took a quick 1-0 lead. Just as it looked as if it might be a tough night for the Lady Rebels, the Todd County Central defense shut down the Trojanettes for the rest of the half. Goalie Darby Delph made some key plays to keep the margin at one goal for the remainder of the half.
The Lady Rebels got on the board early in the second half. Melanie Chamberlaine broke open coming down the left side of the field and lofted a perfect left-footed shot over the goalie into the back right corner of the net to tie things up at 1-1 at the 46:00 mark.
However, Barren County quickly responded when Hadley Adams scored again at 48:10 to put the Trojanettes back up 2-1. The Barren defense then limited the scoring opportunities for the Lady Rebels as the Trojanette offense kept pushing and attacking the net at the other end. Adams added a late score in the final two minutes for the final 3-1 margin.
In the loss, the Lady Rebels got solid defensive play from Ashley Espinoza and Elizabeth Langley. Ava Scott, Jaidyn Holland, and Melanie Chamberlaine led the attack on the offensive end for Todd County Central.
With the loss, Todd County Central opens the season at 0-1. The Lady Rebels are back in action Tuesday night on the road at Franklin-Simpson.
