A frustrating evening ended in a 1-1 draw for the University Heights Academy boys’ soccer team on Thursday at St. Mary.  Despite a performance that improved as the game wore on, the Blazers couldn’t turn an 11-2 second-half shot advantage into a winning goal.

Both teams were looking for a first win of the season after lopsided losses earlier this week.  St. Mary had the best chance of the opening 40 minutes when Blazer goalkeeper Que Quarles made a point-blank stop late in the half to keep the game scoreless at the break.

The Blazers were quick out of the gate in the second half but found themselves trailing when St. Mary’s William O’Neill scored low to the far post with only six minutes played.

However, UHA answered just six minutes later after Lincoln Hauret cut across the top of the 18-yard box and scored with a right-footed effort that found the side netting.

UHA continued to push for the winner and looked to have found it when Griffin McCoy finished off a free kick that bounced off the post, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Quarles finished with five saves for the Blazers.  Brett Haas made 16 stops for the Vikings.

UHA will be back in action on Saturday with matchups against Murray High and Meade County at the Webster County Invitational.
