All five Caldwell County players found the net in the shootout as the Lady Tigers edged Lyon County for a berth in the 2nd Region All A Classic championship game.

Tied 1-1 after 80 minutes, Caldwell and Lyon went to penalty kicks in their semifinal matchup Tuesday at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville.

Caldwell needed all five of its makes in the tiebreaker to nip Lyon 5-4 in the shootout and take the match by a score of 2-1.

Marissa Smith, Brooklyn Hillyard, Harper Ritchey, Aliya Towns and Keegan Miller all converted their penalty kicks.

Caldwell won the coin toss before the shootout, giving the Lady Tigers the opportunity to go last each round.

By the time it got down to Miller, she knew a make would win the match for Caldwell. Miller beat the keeper to the low right to set off a Lady Tiger celebration.

Caldwell (3-1) will next face University Heights Academy (3-0) in the regional title tilt. That match is set for Saturday night and will be played at Crittenden County.

UHA advanced by routing Crittenden 10-0 in 59 minutes in Tuesday’s late semifinal contest.

Caldwell grabbed an early lead against Lyon on a goal by Towns.

The Lady Tigers then dodged some bullets to get to halftime with that 1-0 lead.

But Lyon (2-1-1) drew even in the 56th minute when Anna White scored from the top of the box and into the left side of the net.

Solid work by the goalkeepers kept it a 1-1 match until the shootout.

The Lady Lyons held a 16-10 advantage in shots in the contest.

Abbey Gill recorded 10 saves for Caldwell while Richmond Herring had eight for Lyon.

The Lady Lyons missed just once in the shootout — and that shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Olivia Adams, Marley Norwood, Alice Smith and Avery White each converted their shots.

The Lady Tigers have taken their last three matches with Lyon and now lead the all-time series 36-11-3.
