ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg is a former head college coach and also friends with Kentucky coach John Calipari.
He knows Big Blue Nation has been upset recently with Kentucky’s lack of postseason success but he is not one that thinks the Big Blue sky is falling.
“The narrative around the program is so backwards,” Greenberg said. “Some people just want to knock Kentucky. They throw up the lack of wins in the NCAA Tournament.
“I throw out the COVID year and anything that happened (when UK won only nine games and did not make postseason play). Imagine as good as this year’s team seems to be but what if it was the COVID year and they had not had the summer together. How good would they be?”
But Kentucky did have a four-game exhibition trip to Canada where it won games by an average of 15 points per game.
“Their play in Canada was very impressive,” Greenberg said. “That place (Kentucky) is crazy. The sky was falling in June. John had the best recruiting class in the country and people were worried about the roster.
“It will all work out for John and Kentucky this year. He’s good at what he does. HIs teams have not played well in the NCAA the last two years and he has to live with that but each year is a clean slate and this team looks like it has a chance to be really special.”

If you don’t play well (win) in the tournament, then the season was wasted. Please don’t tell me that BBN has gotten to a point where we are just glad to make the tournament. I remember a time when we used to win it.
We didn’t win 8 national titles often only 4 of them since 1978. We have taken long spells of winning it all in my lifetime since the 60’s. It took another 18 years to win it again after 1978 and that was 1996 and then again 1998. Can’t take away the runner up finish we had since 1978 or made it to the final 4 as well.
Seth Greenberg is the new Dick Vitale.
The problem with the UK basketball program is neglect by a head coach that is more interested in NBA draft nights than winning NCAA championships for the University of Kentucky.
This program is no longer competitive on the national stage. It has become mediocre.
So many fans are expecting this team will be THE ONE, but the pre-season polls have UK either outside the top 25 or barely included.
Sorry, but to compete on the national stage, you must be no less than top 8, and probably top 5.
Professor, when you’re right…you’re right. Like I said earlier, too many of BBN are just happy to make the tournament these days and we pay a guy $8 million dollars a year to give us that dubious honor. I guess it’s hard to come to terms with what our once proud program has become.
So why play the regular season? Lots of teams play well on the regular season over the long haul and then it just takes one bad matchup to lose in the tournament and you are done. Duke, Kansas, UCLA and most everyone else has had it happen. Duke and Kansas both this year. Do you think their season was a waste? You guys think UK is supposed to win it all every year, but college basketball is not like that anymore. The best anybody can hope for is to be in the hunt year in and year out. If you think somebody is going to dominate again, you are fooling yourself. People who whine about Kentucky not winning ot every year or losing early a time or two ruin it for the real fans.
They are not even competing with the best anymore!! Calipari has taken this orogrsm to an all time low… never to recover!! They can’t even win the f’n SEC anymore!! Why can’t stupid people see it???
For years, we have observed the leadership of this country dumbing down Americans.
Calipari has dumbed down a large segment of this fan base.
The Gold Standard? Are you kidding me.
The Gold Standard applies to results on the court, as measured by teams that truely compete for the national championship in a majority of seasons.
Now, the standard has fallen to making the field of 68.
So you are The Professor and are supposed to know all there is to know about it. You just showed your ignorance.
Jim, the Professor has forgotten more about basketball than you will ever know. Nobody expects to win a national title every year, that is just your dumbass talking. We should expect a SEC season championship or tournament championship at least every other year. As for the Big Dance, we should expect to at least be in a regional final every other year, make it to a Final 4 every four years, and win a national title every 8 years. That is what a gold standard team should do. We don’t pay Calipari $8 million a year to watch 4 other teams play in the Final Four. You Calipari lovers should convince him to go to another team and then go there with him.
Barry college basketball landscape has change them days are gone.
Good reply!! The stupid dumbasses that still support that loser are… just stupid!! Seth Greenberg is about as stupid as they come!
True story!! I don’t think they can recover from the low he has taken the program!!
