Despite only four wins combined over the last four seasons, with a new coach, new district opponents, and familiar faces in vital spots, the Christian County Colonels are looking to go out on a high note ahead of next year’s merger with Hopkinsville High School.

Senior Jordan Miles returns under center after missing last season’s first-round playoff loss through injury.  Miles completed 71 passes as a junior with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.  He also ran the ball a team-high 127 times for 537 yards and six scores.

Elijah Underhill, Miles’ top target from last season, is now playing college baseball, taking 32 catches for 685 yards and five touchdowns with him.  However, senior WR/DBs Prince Northington II and JaSean Riley are well-positioned to pick up the slack.

Riley was second with 26 catches, 443 yards receiving, and three scores, followed by Northington II with 18 receptions for 316 yards and four TDs.

Senior wide receiver Jermaine Dove and sophomore Aiden Jesse are two more options, and the Colonels are excited about senior Jerry Foster’s move from center to tight end.

First-year head coach Zach Self does have holes to fill on the defensive side, including DB Cyrus Greenwade.  Linebackers Omarion Wimberly and NaTravion Ford are now playing in college, and DE ZaQuan Quarles has also moved on to the next level.

The Colonels open the season on Friday against Franklin-Simpson at Warren East in the J Allen Builders Bowl before the game the whole city has circled on September 1.

Christian County and Hopkinsville will meet for the final time, with the series tied at 38-38 and the winner taking eternal bragging rights into next year’s merger.

District play begins on October 6 with a visit from Daviess County, followed by matchups with McCracken County and Henderson.  Mayfield will visit the Stadium of Champions to wrap up the regular-season slate.
