Twins Jacob and Jerod Smith will play for Corbin when it opens its football season tonight at home against Cincinnati Hughes.
The brothers played at Somerset in 2019 and 2020 before attending prep schools in Connecticut in 2021 and 2022. They moved to Corbin earlier this summer and were ruled eligible to play by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association this afternoon.
“The Redounds worked up until the last hour to get the boys eligible. It wasn’t an easy task, and I am thankful for all the work it took,” Jerod Smith Sr., the twins’ father, said.
Jacob Smith has been ranked nationally among the top 20 weakside defensive ends, and Jerod Smith is among the top 25 strong defensive end prospects. They are both top 250 players nationally.
The only higher-ranked player in Kentucky is Lexington Christian quarterback Cutter Boley, a Kentucky commit.
The Smiths are both Michigan commits but have remained recruiting priorities for Kentucky and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow.
