Trigg County’s girls kept their perfect record intact Monday night, holding off a late Lyon County comeback bid for a 4-3 triumph in 5th District action.
The Lady Lyons scored a pair of goals in the final 3 minutes of the game to get within a single goal before the Lady Wildcats held on for the win at Lee S. Jones Park.
Addison Humphries had two goals for Trigg, which is now 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the district.
The Lady Wildcats struck less than 2 minutes into the game when Lania Hite headed the ball home off a Leiah Hite corner kick.
Humphries netted her first goal in the 7th minute, then scored again in the 12th minute as Trigg bolted out to a 3-0 lead.
Lyon (3-2-1, 0-1) got on the scoreboard before halftime when Olivia Adams hammered home a penalty kick. That came in the 34th minute and made it a 3-1 game at the break.
Trigg rebuilt its three-goal advantage in the 54th minute, getting a goal from Camryn Boone to go up 4-1.
But Lyon tried to make things interesting with a pair of goals late.
Alice Smith scored with help from Anna Crawford in the 78th minute.
Smith then set up Anna White for a goal to get Lyon within 4-3 with still 1:04 left on the clock.
But the Lady Lyons could not get a good look at a potential tying goal in the final minute as Trigg took the match.
The Lady Wildcats generated more scoring opportunities over the course of the night, outshooting Lyon 13-6.
The start of the game was delayed 2 hours because of the hot weather, but the contest was still played under hot, muggy conditions.
