
After losing last time out against district rivals Christian County and with a rematch scheduled for Thursday, the Hopkinsville volleyball team returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over hosts Trigg County on Monday.
The Lady Tigers took the advantage with a first-set win over the Lady Wildcats, scoring the final five points to break a 20-20 tie.
Hoptown put the second set away with a strong start, leading 14-5 after back-to-back aces by Ajayla Shiraef. Shiraef had three kills in the set, and Madysen Lawrence added two on the way to a 25-9 win.
Another quick start saw the Lady Tigers lead 5-0 in the third, but the Lady Wildcats battled back to within a point at 15-14 after a kill by Ashlynn Koch.
Trigg tied it at 16-16, but a 4-1 Hoptown run, capped by a Shiraef ace, put the Lady Tigers in front for good. Jhade Vaughn’s kill pulled the Lady Wildcats back within a point at 22-21 before Hoptown scored three straight to close out the match.
Koch and Grace Carver each finished with four kills for Trigg, and Morgan Hicks served up three aces.
The win is the Lady Tigers’ twelfth in a row over the Lady Wildcats, improving their record to 2-3. Trigg County slipped to 0-6 and will host Crittenden County on Thursday.
