Hopkinsville freshman Kaydon Coats doubled her season tally with four goals, and the Lady Tigers put an end to a two-game skid with a 5-0 victory over Fort Campbell on Tuesday at the Stadium of Champions.

Hoptown’s first 8th District victory moved it above .500 at 3-2-2, while the Lady Falcons slipped to 0-2 in district play, 1-3 overall.

The Lady Tigers were in control from the opening whistle and took a 1-0 lead with 14 minutes played on Rebecca Wood’s goal.  Coats’ first goal doubled the advantage 12 minutes later when her initial shot hit the crossbar and she steered the rebound into the net.

With eight minutes left in the half, Coats’ shot found its way through the hands of Fort Campbell goalkeeper Avaley Moore for a 3-0 score at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers missed a penalty kick and saw a shot rattle off the crossbar before putting the game away with two strikes over the last 14 minutes.

Lauren Jones’ shot was saved, and Coats was on hand to finish from close range before tapping in at the back post after another save to wrap up the scoring.

Hopkinsville outshot the Lady Falcons 21-0, with goalkeepers DeAijha Tullis and Hollie Simmons combining for the shutout.

Coats added an assist to her goal haul, and Wood and Jones also provided assists.

Hopkinsville will be on the road at Caldwell County on Thursday, while Fort Campbell will face Todd County Central and Hopkins County Central in the Christian County Lady Colonel Showcase on Saturday.
