Former Lyon County standout Cullan Brown is among the four inductees in the 2023 class of the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame. The selection committee announced the selection of Brown, who passed away in 2020, Phil Armbruster, Jeff McGill, and Susan Stewart on Tuesday, pointing out that the four represent various past, present, and future contributions to all aspects of golf in the state.

In a news release, the Hall of Fame noted that Cullan Brown is being posthumously inducted for his playing achievements and contributions to the game and to the golf and state communities.

A native of Eddyville, Brown learned the game at Mineral Mound golf course. Brown’s career highlights include a Rolex Junior All-American title, the 2016 KHSAA State Individual Championship, and the AJGA Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship. Brown also represented Team USA at the Evian Junior Cup Championship in Evian, France.

His standout career continued while playing for the University of Kentucky, where he picked up four Top-20 finishes in his freshman year. He tied the lowest 18-hole score in the Brian Craig era with a 64. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team.

Brown received a sponsor’s exemption into the 2019 Barbasol Championship, making the cut and posting a score of 10-under par for the event.

The news release further stated that “though Brown had an incredible playing career, he is perhaps best remembered for his actions off the course. Widely regarded as both a fantastic player and person, Brown leaves a lasting legacy for his infectious personality and impact on everyone he met.”

Brown’s selection to the Hall of Fame comes just days after the three-year anniversary of his passing following a battle with cancer.
