The Logan County Lady Cougars took a big step toward the top seed in the girls’ 13th District soccer tournament. The Lady Cougars scored on a shot that for a brief moment was in the hands of the Todd County keeper inside the final five minutes of the match and that goal turned out to be the winner as the Logan County claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Lily Humble’s shot came from high on the right-hand side and was headed towards the middle of the goal. Todd Central goalie Darby Delph elevated to go after the shot, getting her hands on the ball. But, when she hit the ground, the ball jarred loose and rolled into the net giving Logan County the lead.

The Lady Rebels pushed the ball over the final minutes but could not get a good look as Logan County held on for the win.

Logan County had opened the match quickly, taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes in when Carrie Gloyd found the net.

It looked for the longest time as if the match might end that way. Both teams had opportunities the rest of the half, but could not find the net. The half would end with the score still at 1-0.

Todd County Central finally broke through at 55:30 to tie things up at 1-1. Haylee Chamberlaine took the rebound of a missed shot by Melanie Chamberlaine and snuck it past the keeper.

The score stayed even until Humble’s game-winner.

The loss drops the Lady Rebels to 1-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in 13th District play. Todd County Central is back in action Thursday when they travel to Russellville.
