
It took five sets, including a marathon 70-point third, but the Heritage Christian Academy volleyball team earned its first win on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over hosts McLean County.
The Lady Warriors fell 23-25 in the opener before bouncing back to even the match with a 25-18 victory in the second.
McLean County took the advantage with a grueling 36-34 win in the third set, but HCA battled back to force a fifth set tiebreaker with a narrow 25-23 win in the fourth.
The Lady Warriors then took the tiebreaker 15-9 to pick up their first win in eight tries this season.
Katie Cansler led the way for HCA with 20 kills and five aces, followed by Hadlee Hayes with nine kills, 14 assists, and four aces.
Hayes also finished with 36 digs, Bralee Fowler had 28, and Cansler added 17.
HCA will host Fort Campbell on Thursday in search of its first 8th-district victory. It will be the first-ever match between the programs.
