Mayfield freshman Nia Haley entered Thursday night’s soccer match at Christian County having scored all of the goals for the Lady Cardinals so far this season. After Thursday night, that statement still holds true with a few goals added to that total.

Haley scored five times as the Lady Cardinals upended the Lady Colonels 5-1 on the pitch at the Stadium of Champions.

The single-player offensive outburst marked the first time the Lady Cardinals had scored since their season-opening 11-3 loss to Trigg County. Coming into Thursday, Mayfield had been outscored 35-0 in their four previous contests.

The match was scoreless until the 23:45 mark when Haley scored for the first time.

Christian County came right back three minutes later to even things up when Alayah Lander broke open on a run down the right side and found the net.

Nia Haley scored on a ball that deflected off the keeper’s hands at the 33:00 and then again on a penalty kick two minutes later to give Mayfield a 3-1 lead at the break.

Haley scored on a second penalty kick when she was tripped in the box at 56:25 to run the lead out to 4-1. She added her fifth score of the night on a spinning shot right in front of the goal inside the final five minutes to get the score to 5-1.

Haley’s speed down the middle of the field was a problem all night long from the Lady Colonels. Christian County did get some solid minutes from Cayleigh Clay and Jayleigh Campbell, in addition to the attacking offense of Alayah Lander.

The loss drops Christian County to 2-3 on the season. They will take on Kirkwood and Hopkins County Central on Saturday in the Lady Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions.
