Tom Cruise on the big screen did not have much on Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Maverick Thursday evening on the pitch at the Stadium of Champions. Senior Maverick Peyton racked up five goals as the Maroons rolled past Christian County 13-3 in a 2nd Region contest.

Peyton scored four of the goals in the opening half and then one more after the break to give him 14 on the season. He also assisted on two Maroons’ goals in the match.

Madisonville found the net four times in the first 13 minutes of the match to bolt out to the early 4-0 lead. Peyton scored two of those. Logan Terry and Eli Redpath added one each.

Christian County found the net for the first time at the 14:00 mark as Bryan Linares scored off an assist from Noah Davis to cut the lead to 4-1.

But the rest of the half was all Maroons. A crossing pass for the Maroons deflected off a Christian County defender to make it 5-1. Two more goals for Maverick Peyton and another from Eli Redpath sent the Maroons into the break with an 8-1 lead.

To the Colonels credit, they did not go quietly in the second half. A goal from Noah Davis at 42:15 trimmed the lead to 8-2.

Madisonville had the response, however, in the form of two goals from Dru Lile and another from Maverick Peyton to extend the lead to 11-2.

Christian Lopez scored at 71:45 to make it 11-3. The Maroons then closed out the match with two more goals, the last coming at 78:00 to bring in the 10-goal rule as Madisonville took the 13-3 win.

Christian County played most of the night without Leland Creamer, who went down with a leg injury in the first half.

The three goals by the Colonels mark the first time this season that a 2nd Region team has scored against the Maroons.

The loss drops the Colonels to 3-2 on the year. They return to action Tuesday whey they travel across town to take on Heritage Christian in an 8th District contest.
