Colt Bannister’s goal less than a minute into the second overtime gave Lyon County a 4-3 win over Trigg County in a hotly contested district boys’ soccer match Thursday in Eddyville.

The win was Lyon’s first in seven games this season and kept Trigg winless in five starts.

Bannister scored four goals Thursday and has all nine of Lyon’s goals this year.

It was Trigg County that struck first as Marlee Reeves scored three minutes into the contest.

Bannister answered midway through the quarter to tie the match at 1-1.

Peyton Moore scored four minutes later to put Trigg back ahead.

Bannister scored the next two – the first coming in the 25th minute to tie the game and his third of the match coming in the 47th minute.

James Garnett tied the match at 3-3 with 23 minutes left.

Both teams got several good looks in the final 20 minutes but couldn’t score.

Bannister’s game-winner gave Lyon its fourth straight win over its district rival – the longest win streak for Lyon over Trigg County in 17 years.

Lyon County will host Webster County on Tuesday, while Trigg County will entertain Russellville next Thursday.
