Caydon Coats and Kaylyn Burgess-Lynch did the damage on Saturday for the Hopkinsville girls’ soccer team, and the Lady Tiger defense kept the Kirkwood Cobras under wraps in a 4-1 victory at the Lady Colonel Showcase.
Hoptown didn’t allow a single shot on goal until late in the match, with DeAijha Tullis only called on to make one save in the Lady Tiger goal.
Despite constant pressure, Hopkinsville had to wait 30 minutes for the breakthrough goal when Coats cleaned up from close range after Burgess-Lynch had dribbled into the box.
Just after the halftime break, Burgess-Lynch nearly doubled the advantage, but her shot on a breakaway was straight at the Kirkwood goalkeeper.
The Lady Tigers didn’t have to wait long to add to the lead, though, using a flurry of goals to put the game away early in the second half. Coats pounced on a loose ball and rolled her shot into the corner to make it 2-0, and hit the post with a shot from the right side a minute later.
Burgess-Lynch got on the scoresheet soon after on an assist by Coats, and Coats finished off her hat trick with help from a pass by Burgess-Lynch.
Hopkinsville improved to 4-3-2 ahead of a Saturday night matchup with Todd County Central.
