blazers-murray-1-2

It will be the Murray Tigers moving on to the All A Classic boys’ state soccer tournament. The Tigers advanced by getting past University Heights 7-1 Monday night at Givens Field.

The Tigers controlled the flow of play most of the night on offense. Defensively, Murray gave UHA limited opportunities to get a good look at the net.

A first-half flurry got things rolling for Murray. The Tigers scored three goals in a span of just five minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Nate Wyatt found the net at 11:30 to give Murray a 1-0 lead. Max Rosa scored back-to-back goals at 15:45 and 16:30, both coming on assists from Kellen Crouch.

For the rest of the half, the Blazers were able to turn the Tigers away and send the match to the break at 3-0. UHA got some solid back-line defensive play from Lane Bennett, Clayton Lester, and Ryan Luckey in the half and through the night.

After having two assists in the first half, Kellen Crouch scored at 56:30 in the second half to extend the lead to 4-0. Nate Wyatt then scored his second goal of the night at 63:20 to make it 5-0.

The Blazers got on the board at the 69:00 mark when Cal Givens scored off a throw-in from Clayton Lester to trim the lead to 5-1.

But Murray quickly responded to lock up the win. Greyton Price and Brodie Morris scored over the final ten minutes to close out the victory for the Tigers, which was their second win over the Blazers this season.

Murray moves to 9-2 with its third straight win and will head off to Frankfort for the All A state tournament.

UHA sees a four-match winning streak come to an end as the Blazers drop to 4-4-1 on the season.
