When you see her on the volleyball court for the Christian County Lady Colonels, Skylar Kirby is one of the ‘high-flyers’ for the Lady Colonels, elevating off the floor to try and put the point away, forcefully in many instances. And, while she is a standout for the Lady Colonel volleyball team, Skylar stands out in other ways as well, thus she is one of our Chick-fil-A ‘Triple A’ honorees.
Skylar is a junior at Christian County High School and has it together in the classroom. She has been an Honor Roll student throughout her high school career. She has also taken AP and honors classes, as she is focused in on graduating with honors. Skylar is also taking dual credit classes this year through Hopkinsville Community College.
While volleyball does not allow Skylar a great deal of free time, she is finding a way to make the best of that time when she gets it. You see, in addition to her high school volleyball, Skylar jumps right in to club volleyball once the high school season is over.
She is a member of Sub Deb 1, which has given her the opportunity to be actively involved in her community. Skylar has been able to be involved in helping out community organizations such as St. Luke Free Clinic, Grace & Mercy, Max’s Hope, and breast cancer awareness. She participated in a Sub Deb 1 football game where money was raised to support breast cancer awareness.
Sub Deb has also given Skylar the opportunity to volunteer her time at school fall festivals and local church activities.
Speaking of church and her faith, Skylar attends New Work Fellowship and is involved with the youth group there.
Skylar is serving as the student member of the Christian County High School Youth Service Center Advisory Council. The advisory council meets a few months throughout the year to discuss and vote on the center’s budget and projected spending.
She has also been involved in her school community in both Beta and the National Honor Society.
Skylar has been a starting varsity player with the Lady Colonels since her freshman year and made the 8th District All-District Volleyball Team her sophomore season.
Skylar has not always been a volleyball player. At the age of 4, until her freshman year of high school she was an athlete with Bluegrass Cheer and Dance. She was a competitive cheerleader for 9 years, and during four of those years, she added competitive dance to her already busy schedule.
She is also one with big-time school spirit. Look around at Christian County sporting events, and you will more likely than not find Skylar cheering on the Colonels and Lady Colonels.
Skylar somehow finds time to work at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex.
As for her future plans, Skylar aims to play collegiate volleyball and study business. Down the road, she hopes to one day open her own sports training facility.
Sharp in the classroom, active in the community, a standout on the court, and looking towards her future. Great attributes for our Chick-fil-A ‘Triple A’, Christian County High School’s Skylar Kirby.
