With three 8th-District matchups over the next two weeks, the Christian County boys’ soccer team got its district campaign off to a winning start on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over hosts Fort Campbell.
It’s the Colonels’ second-straight one-goal win over the Falcons after the teams alternated wins over the previous four contests. Christian County improved to 4-2 and dropped Fort Campbell to 3-3.
After a scoreless first half, the Colonels got all the scoring they would need with a pair of goals inside the first five minutes of the second half. Gage Montes opened the scoring with just over four minutes played before Antonio Rubio doubled the advantage just 40 seconds later.
The Falcons got on the board to make things interesting with ten minutes left, but Christian County held on behind five saves in goal for Mason Malone.
The Colonels will host Henderson County on Tuesday before welcoming University Heights Academy to the Stadium of Champions on Thursday.
Fort Campbell will host Heritage Christian on Tuesday, with both teams chasing a first district victory.
