The Todd County Central Rebels have kept themselves in contention for the top seed in the 13th District boys soccer tournament. The Rebels won their fourth straight match and improved to 2-1 in the district as they took a hard-fought 3-1 win over Franklin-Simpson Thursday night in Elkton.
The Rebels controlled play for the first 10 minutes but again found ourselves down on a quick counter as the Wildcats took the early 1-0 lead.
With about ten minutes left in the opening half, Ivan Lopez got on the end of a long pass and was fouled in the box. Zack Robinson converted the penalty kick to even things up at 1-1. Two minutes later after a series of shots and deflections, John Ross Cardwell scored a low burner that kicked off a Franklin defender’s leg and found the net.
Franklin-Simpson controlled the last five minutes of the half but could not find the net.

With about 20 minutes left in the match a Wildcat player got a yellow card, then argued his way into a red card, forcing Franklin-Simpson to finish out the match one man down.
With less than a minute left in the contest, Charlie Campbell got loose in the corner, sent a ball to Ivan Lopez, who then made one more touch to Zack Robinson for the far post finish to lock up the 3-1 win.
Todd County Central moves to 6-3 on the season and will take on Monroe County Saturday morning in the 4th Region All A Classic.
