
Hopkinsville snapped a five-match losing streak to Hopkins County Central Monday with its first four-set win of the season.
The Lady Tigers scored a 25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 26-24 win over the Lady Storm in Morton’s Gap. Three of Hoptown’s four wins this year have come on the road.
Ajayla Shiraef led the Lady Tigers with six kills and six digs. She also had four of the team’s nine aces.
Madysen Lawrence and Mariana Vieyra each had three kills, and Kendra McMickens added three digs and two aces. Amy Toms led the assist parade with 12.
“The team did an amazing job after a few lineup changes for injuries,” Hoptown coach Laykin Peek said. “I think things are coming along for us and our subs are coming into the game ready to play.”
Hopkinsville (4-5) returns to district play Thursday with a home match against Heritage Christian Academy – one that holds a level of significance for postseason seeding.
University Heights Academy leads the district with a 4-0 record. Christian County is 4-1. They will play each other on Thursday.
Hopkinsville is 2-3 in the district, while HCA is 1-3 and Fort Campbell is 0-4. HCA and Fort Campbell play on Tuesday.
