
Senior A.J. Padilla had a four-goal night and the Caldwell County Tigers ended a five-game losing skid.
The Tigers built a 3-0 halftime advantage and went on to defeat Hopkins County Central 4-1 Tuesday night in 7th District soccer action at Butler Stadium in Princeton.
Padilla scored two goals in the first 9 minutes, with Ben Jones and Sutton Ritchey picking up assists.
Padilla found the net again in the 28th minute, getting help from Alex Noffsinger, to stake Caldwell to its 3-0 lead at the break.
Riley Dunlap got Hopkins Central on the scoreboard in the 58th minute with a long shot from the left side that made it into the right side of the net.
But the Storm could get no closer than 3-1.
Padilla picked up another goal late to extend the final margin to 4-1.
He now has eight goals on the season.
Corbin Nichols made five saves for the Tigers.
Caldwell is now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the district.
Hopkins Central is 1-7-1 and 0-2.
The teams will meet again in the 7th District tournament in October for the right to advance to the championship game against top-seeded Madisonville-North Hopkins.
The Tigers have now won four of their last five meetings with the Storm.
Caldwell leads the all-time series 26-8-1.
The Tigers next visit Trigg County on Thursday.
