Colson Mattocks’ first varsity goal came at a perfect time.

The Caldwell County freshman scored 15 minutes into the contest, and the Tiger defense made it stand up in a 1-0 win at Trigg County Thursday.

Mattocks got free on the far side and tallied the match’s lone goal.

It was Caldwell’s first 1-0 win since last Sept. 24 against Graves County and upped its season record to 4-7.

For Trigg County, it was another solid defensive performance. The Wildcats have allowed two or fewer goals in four of their last six matches but were shut out for the second straight time.

Caldwell County has won four straight matches against Trigg County in the series. The 1-0 final was the first in the series since a Caldwell County win in 2008.

Caldwell County travels to St. Mary on Tuesday.

Trigg County (1-6-1) continues its five-game homestand to end the season Thursday with a district match against Lyon County.
