Caldwell County put up a surprising fight early, but ultimately Class 6A McCracken County wore down the Tigers.
The Tigers and Mustangs were tied 7-7 in the second quarter before McCracken got to halftime with a 21-7 advantage.
The Mustangs (3-2) went on to claim a 43-7 victory on Homecoming night at Marquette Stadium in Paducah.
But Caldwell (0-5) was left with some positives with its play early — with the Tigers feeling like they could have easily gotten to halftime down just 14-7 or perhaps tied 14-14.
McCracken’s spread passing attack was the difference in the contest.
Maddox O’Neal threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns for the Mustangs, completing 26 of 35 attempts. Most of that damage came in the first half — 253 yards and all three scores.
McCracken finished with 495 total yards.
But Caldwell was game early.
Down 7-0, the Tigers put together a 13-play, 71-yard scoring drive and found the end zone on a 10-yard pass play from Daelyn Lander to Gus Fox. Timothy Nichols kicked the extra point to make it a 7-7 game with 7:46 left in the first half.

McCracken responded with a scoring drive of its own and retook the lead on a 35-yard TD toss from O’Neal to Cooper Falconite to help make it 14-7.
Caldwell then failed to cover the ensuing kickoff, with McCracken’s James Barragan recovering the loose ball on the turf at the Tiger 17-yard line.
McCracken cashed in quickly, with O’Neal hitting Andrew Farmer with a 13-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7 and take a lot of the sting out of a potential Caldwell upset bid.
The Mustangs concentrated more on their ground game in the second half, getting 148 of their 158 yards rushing after the break.
Zeno Cornelius finished the night with 93 yards rushing and two second-half touchdowns on runs of 18 and 47 yards.
Falconite made eight grabs for 114 yards. Farmer made just two catches, but both went for touchdowns — 12 and 13 yards.
Chase Dassing added a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for McCracken, which led 35-7 through three quarters.

Caldwell was 17 of 34 combined passing. Lander was 10 of 21 for 117 yards while Jack Roach went 7 of 13 for 38 yards.
Luke Parker made seven receptions for 59 yards while Eli Stevens had four catches for 55 yards.
Fox ran for 66 yards on 10 carries while Roach had 33 yards rushing on seven attempts.
Roach also led the Tiger defense in tackles with 12. Max Heaton added 10.
Caldwell has its own Homecoming next week, hosting Christian County for a rare Thursday night game at Tiger Stadium in Princeton.
