The top eight finishers at Monday's Region 2 Tournament won by Madisonville's Karra Tucker
Madisonville-North Hopkins senior Karra Tucker went into the 2022 region golf tournament thinking she could win. And she did.
This year, she came into Monday’s Region 2 Girls’ Tournament knowing she would win. And she did.
Tucker shot a 6-under-par 65 at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club to win the region title by 12 shots – the largest margin of victory in over 20 years. She also shot what is believed to be the women’s course record for 18 holes.
Tucker had six birdies on her scorecard and just one bogey – thanks to a three-putt on the 15th hole. She responded with back-to-back birdies by dropping two mid-range putts.
After committing to Eastern Kentucky University over the summer, Tucker overcame an early season injury to get back on the winning track. She tied for sixth place over the weekend at the Kentucky All-State Championship in Lexington.
She becomes the first golfer since Owensboro Catholic’s Emma Payne in 2018-19 to repeat as region champion.
Tucker helped her Madisonville team finish in second place, two shots behind region champion Daviess County.
Sydney Browning shot a 14-over-par 85 to finish in ninth place.
University Heights Academy junior Conlee Lindsey finished 12 shots behind Tucker with a 6-over 77. Hopkinsville junior Cate Blane tied with Daviess County’s Alexa Salamah to finish in third place with a 9-over-par 80.
In addition to the teams from Daviess County and Madisonville, the 10 golfers that will advance to the state first round next week at the Calvert City Country Club are Lindsey, Blane, Henderson County’s Meryl Grogan (81), Henderson County’s Ainsley Dalton (82), Hopkinsville’s Anna Fort (83), Apollo’s Mary Ann Lyons (86), Maggie Blair (87) and Adelynn Moorman (87) – both from Breckinridge County, Maggie Graves from Ohio County (87), and Barbara Gail Wright (91) from Breckinridge County.
