After a narrow one-goal win in the first meeting, the Trigg County Lady Wildcats wasted no time getting off on the right foot in Tuesday’s rematch with 5th-District rivals Lyon County.
Trigg’s Lania Hite netted four goals to take her season total to a staggering 44, with two strikes off assists by Hallie Joiner giving the Lady Wildcats a 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes.
Leiah Hite got in on the act with a goal with 24:20 left in the first half, but the Lady Lyons built some momentum with an unassisted Anna White goal with just over eight minutes left until the break.
Joiner found the back of the net from a tight angle off a pass from Lania Hite to restore the three-goal cushion with six minutes played in the second half.
Lyon answered in the 60th minute on Alice Smith’s goal with help from White, but Lania Hite and Joiner hooked up twice more over the final 15 minutes to finish off a fourth-straight win over the Lady Lyons.
Trigg’s Anna Sink made ten saves in goal to earn the win. For Lyon County, Richmond Herring allowed five goals and made two saves before Sadie Gandee took over between the posts, making five stops and allowing a single goal.
The top-seeded and defending champion Lady Wildcats finished 4-0 in district play to improve to 13-2 overall. Lyon County saw a three-game winning run end to stand at 8-5-1.
