
With the final week of the regular season underway, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons continue to look the part of 2nd Region boys’ soccer favorite. The Maroons rolled into Hopkinsville Tuesday evening and picked up a 9-1 win over the Hopkinsville Tigers at the Stadium of Champions.
The loss ended a three-match winning streak for the Tigers.
Madisonville got on the board first in the match when Sam Dodds scored off an assist from Logan Terry to make it 1-0. Ten minutes later, it was Noah Mays finding the net to extend the lead to 2-0. It took just five minutes more for Maverick Peyton to score off another Terry assist, pushing the lead to 3-0. Logan Terry got his third assist of the night moments later when Dru Lile scored to make it 4-0.
The bright spot of the night for the Tigers came in the waning moments of the first half when Nick Klar sent a right-footed shot to the left post, beating the Maroon goalie who had been making a play on the ball and cutting the lead to 4-1 at the half.
Logan Terry scored two quick goals in the second half to give the Maroons a 6-1 lead. Sam Dodds, Eli Redpath, and Maverick Peyton would add goals over the rest of the match to get to the final score.
The win moves Madisonville to 15-3-2 for the season. The Maroons travel to McCracken County Thursday.
Hopkinsville falls to 6-10 on the year. The Tigers now get ready to open district tournament play Tuesday evening at the Stadium of Champions.
