After twice going a goal down on Monday at the Stadium of Champions, the Trigg County Lady Wildcats scored a pair of goals in the final 16 minutes to top Hopkinsville 4-2 for their eighth-straight victory.

The Lady Wildcats were on the front foot early, with much of the match played in the Lady Tigers’ defensive third, but it was Hopkinsville taking the lead in the 15th minute when Kaydon Coats found the back of the net off an assist from Kaylyn Burgess-Lynch.

Needing three goals to become Trigg County’s all-time scoring leader, Lania Hite closed in on the record with a volley at the back post off a cross from Leiah Hite to tie the match with 10:30 left in the half.

Lania had a pair of chances saved by Hoptown goalkeeper DeAijha Tullis to keep the match tied, and the Lady Tigers regained the advantage when Burgess-Lynch cut back onto her right foot in the box and fired into the top corner for a 2-1 Hoptown lead at the break.

With frustration growing for the Lady Wildcats over the first 20 minutes of the second half, Addison Humphries pulled them level with 18:30 left.  Just two minutes later, Trigg County took its first lead after Humphries drew a foul in the box, and Lania converted the penalty kick to make it 3-2.

Coats had one last good scoring chance for the Lady Tigers with 7:33 to play, but her shot was saved by Trigg’s Anna Sink, and a second attempt off the rebound sailed over the bar.

Leiah Hite added an insurance goal when she picked the ball up at midfield and dribbled up the right side before finishing low to the far corner for the final margin.

Trigg improved to 15-2 with home and away matches with Fort Campbell to close the regular season.

Hopkinsville slipped to 7-7-2 with a trip to Crittenden County remaining on its schedule.
