After an early-season coaching change, the Crittenden County Rockets are not only working towards a fifth district volleyball title in six years but also an extended region tournament run.
On Tuesday, the Lady Rockets dispatched Trigg County 25-11, 25-8, 25-10 to complete a season sweep of district opposition.
The Lady Rockets never trailed in the first two sets, grabbing a 9-1 lead in the first set and an 8-3 lead in the second.
Crittenden’s service game totaled 15 aces, led by Riley Smith’s five. Smith also had 10 assists and six digs.
Trigg County led early in a third set that was tied three times. However, Mary Rachel Stephens had a pair of aces as part of a 14-1 run that saw the Lady Rockets gain control of the set and match.
Carly Porter and Payton Hall each had four kills to pace the Lady Rockets, who improved to 6-3 since Savanna Tays took over as head coach on August 23.
“I think that we’ve changed the energy aspect because we kind of get down and you have to just grow. It always helps to have great energy,” Tays said.
Morgan Hicks and Ashlynn Koch each had three kills for Trigg County, who lost its 16th straight match to Crittenden.
“A lot of that is confidence. We go out and we get a little tough on ourselves, so we’re still working to push through that,” Trigg coach Madison Rogers said. “We still have a young team, but we’re still working together.”
Crittenden County is 9-9 after its 10th straight win against district opposition.
Trigg County (0-11) will play at Hopkinsville on Thursday.
