
Hopkinsville senior Andrew Riggs survived a 10-player playoff on Tuesday to advance to the 2023 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac Golf State Final Rounds in Bowling Green next week.
Riggs was one of 10 players to shoot 5-over-par 77 and finish in a tie for 16th place in State First Round action at Calvert City Country Club. Those players went to a playoff to battle for the final seven spots at state.
In the State First Round, the top three teams and next 15 individuals advance to the Final Rounds at Bowling Green Country Club.
Starting his day on No. 10, Riggs carded a 4-over 40 on the back nine.
After making the turn, Riggs bogeyed No. 1, but then parred his final eight holes to shoot 1-over 37 on that side to get into the playoff and, ultimately, advance in the state championships.
Greenwood’s Jacob Lang was medalist on Tuesday with a 4-under-par 68. McCracken County’s Landon Hunt, who played at Christian County last year, was runner-up with a 2-under 70.
The boys’ State Final Rounds are set for Oct. 6-7 with a practice round on Oct. 5.
