In a preview of an opening round game of the 8th District tournament, the Fort Campbell Falcons picked up their second win of the season over Heritage Christian Academy Thursday evening, but it did not come easy. Four different players found the net for the Falcons as they came away with a tough 5-4 win over the Warriors.
Heritage took the early lead in the game after a foul in the box was called on Fort Campbell. Lucas West scored the penalty kick giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead just over ten minutes into the match.
Fort Campbell battled back with a pair of first-half goals from Mateo Cerritos-Gatto. Cerritos-Gatto scored at the 22:00 right in front of the net and then again on a long shot across the front of the goal that deflected in off the left post, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead at the break.
Despite the momentum flowing in the Falcons’ direction at the break, the Warriors did not go away. Each team scored three goals in the second half, but the Falcons were able to hold on for the one-goal win.
Fort Campbell had second-half goals from Dominick Fitzpatrick, Dylan McDonald, and Aiden Freck.
All three of HCA’s second-half goals were scored by Kallan Davis. Lucas West and Layton Giltner assisted on two of those goals.
Fort Campbell and Heritage Christian will now spend the next couple of days getting ready to face each other again Monday evening in the 8th District tournament. The match will be played at 5:30 at the Stadium of Champions.
The winner of Monday night’s match will advance on to take on University Heights Tuesday night in the district semifinals.
