While the Trigg County Lady Wildcats enter this week’s 5th District girls’ soccer tournament as the favorite, each of the three teams could make an argument for having a chance to take home the trophy. The tournament gets underway Monday evening at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.

The semifinal matchup will have second-seeded Lyon County taking on third-seeded Crittenden County. The Lady Lyons won both regular season matchups against the Lady Rockets, taking a 10-4 win in Eddyville and then an 8-1 win in Marion. The Lady Rockets have had their ups and downs this season, but they did take Trigg County to penalty kicks earlier in the year, so it would be wise not to overlook the Lady Rockets.

The Lyon County and Crittenden County matchup gets underway at 5:30 Monday.

Waiting in the wings is the top-seeded Trigg County Lady Wildcats. Trigg County is in the midst of a stellar two-season run that has been them go 32-5-1 over the past two seasons and reach the 2022 regional championship match.

The Lady Wildcats swept both Lyon County and Crittenden County in similar fashion this season, winning one match comfortably and then having to battle to the end to claim the second match. Trigg County will take on the Lyon County/Crittenden County winner Tuesday night in the championship match, which is set for 7:30 at Lee S. Jones Park.

Trigg County is looking to go back-to-back. Lyon County is looking for its third straight odd-year championship, having won titles in 2021 and 2019. Crittenden County is looking for its first 5th District championship since 2015.
