Saturday was a big recruiting day for the University of Kentucky football and it worked out perfectly with the Cats beating No. 22 Florida 33-14.
“It’s like throwing a big party and hoping the good times and win comes,” said Marrow on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Talk. “We had some dudes on campus.
“Let me give a shout out to Big Blue Nation. The atmosphere was like a 7 o’clock game even with a noon start. (Kentucky athletics director) Mitch (Barnhart) has given the support and allowed us to do things.”
Marrow said the Kroger Field atmosphere rivaled what recruits could find at Alabama or Ohio State, two long-time national powers.
“I can’t tell you how many guys and parents said they had no idea Kentucky was like this,” Marrow said. “One kid committed to a top five program said, ‘This is the place to be.’
“It’s not just one person doing this. It’s a machine. Those fans were off the chain. It was very great to see that Saturday.”
Marrow could not say who the player was that was so impressed with the UK atmosphere. However, four-star receiver Rico Scott, a teammate at Bishop McDevitt (Pennsylvania) of 2025 UK quarterback commit Stone Saunders, was in Lexington. He’s an Alabama commit but Saunders indicated as soon as he committed to UK that he would like to persuade Scott to change.
Scott had two touchdown catches two weeks ago and also ran an 80-yard touchdown on the game’s first play. Last week he had six catches for 64 yards and one touchdown along with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
In five games he has 31 catches for 562 yards — 18.1 yards per catch — and 10 touchdowns. As a junior he made 66 catches for 1,184 yards — 17.9 per catch — and 18 scores. His sophomore season he had 25 receptions for 538 yards — 21.5 per catch — and nine touchdowns.
Scott’s timeline on X (formerly Twitter) makes no mention of his trip to Lexington and is filled with Alabama-related posts.
