Dusty Bonner prided himself on his accuracy when he played quarterback at Kentucky and then Valdosta State.
He also never lost faith in his receivers and says that is important to remember now that UK star receivers Barion Brown and Dane Key have been prone to dropping some balls through Kentucky’s first five games that they did not miss in 2022.
“Basically you keep throwing the ball to them and move on to the next play,” said Bonner, who is on the UK Radio Network, on The Leach Report on WLAP-AM. “If you play quarterback, you make multiple mistakes every game. So we are in it together.
“When receivers start having drops they lose confidence but you having confidence in them helps. It’s just a matter of having faith and it will all work out. They have shown flashes. Last week was the worst game for the passing game but I certainly believe in these guys.
“It will come together and when it does it will be interesting to see what it looks like.”

Well maybe so, but 5 games in and no passing attack is not real good when the No. 1 team in the nation is next up, and playing at home before a packed house. I think you keep throwing to them to a point, but if they keep dropping balls, then play some other people behind them on the depth chart if they can run the route. Coach may just find another star. That will usually get results from the starters too. So far, Coen’s skill players are not living up to all the fancy hype we all heard, including their QB, let’s be honest. They didn’t have to pass the ball against UF so much, Davis took care of that. I would love to see Davis have another monster game, but I believe UGA will be prepared to stop that. Figure out a way to complete a few key passes to your TE’s down the field for starters. Thank goodness for the UK defense and Ray Davis and his Oline. This UK team will not win in Athens without completing a whole lot of passes, especially to the end zone. This team they face ain’t Vandy, or Florida. UK has a chance to rock the football world. Come on Cats, get it all together. It would sound real good…. 6-0.
