It has not been a good week for the Christian County Lady Colonels against opponents from the 1st Region. The Lady Colonels dropped their third match in a week to a 1st Region foe Thursday night as they fell to Graves County in Lyle Dunbar Gym.

The win ended a four-match losing streak for the Lady Eagles.

Graves County opened fast in the first set. The Lady Eagles bolted out to a 10-2 lead behind the play of Sydney Wright and Ella Morton. Christian County battled back with strong play from Anaysia Bagwell, Rylee Owens, and Camryn Armstrong, to close to within 18-14. But that would be as close as the Lady Colonels could get as Graves won the opening set 25-15.

The Lady Eagles started fast again in the second set, getting out to a 7-2 lead. With Skylar Kirby leading the way, the Lady Colonels came roaring back and took a 13-8 lead. The match went back-and-forth over the next few minutes. Then, with a one-point lead at 21-20, Graves County scored the final four points of the set to win 25-20 and go up two sets to none. The Lady Eagles’ trio of Ava Futrell, Molly Miller, and Ella Morton made big plays coming down the stretch.

The third set once again saw Graves County get out to a quick start and this time there was no rally for the Lady Colonels. The Lady Eagles got off to a 9-2 start and then held Christian County at bay, allowing the Lady Colonels to get no closer than four points the rest of the set. Christian County got big plays from Aaliyah Bacon, Kaidence Atwell, and Skylar Kirby, but could not mount a run to threaten the Lady Eagles in the set.

Graves County would close out the match with a 25-18 win in the third.

The Lady Colonels drop to 17-10 with the loss. They close out the regular season next Thursday on the road at Caldwell County.
