Dusty Bonner is a Georgia native who played quarterback at Kentucky and then Valdosta State.
He knows plenty about the tradition of Georgia football and what Kentucky will be facing Saturday night in Athens, Ga.
“It will be a great atmosphere. That is just part of playing in the SEC everywhere you go,” Bonner said. “Their talent is by far the biggest issue. Georgia is just good.”
However, Bonner knows UK is different now.
“When I was playing Georgia, they just looked different. They were bigger. It was not just the first team. They were all bigger,” he said on The Leach Report on WLAP-AM. “But what I would say about this Kentucky team is that every guy on this Kentucky team is a SEC player and they have depth. On the (defensive) front they can rotate guys and come after you all day long.”
To beat No. 1 Georgia, UK will have to “survive the early storm” that can favor the home team.
“Try to survive and not let the game get away from you quick,” Bonner, an analyst for the UK Radio Network pregame show, said. “This defense has not only been stopping people but creating turnovers and points.
“This front seven is as good as I have ever seen at Kentucky and possibly the best in the history of Kentucky. This is a special team and we have not seen their best but when we do see it it is going to be pretty remarkable and maybe that will be Saturday night.”
