A 180-degree change in weather conditions did not benefit Andrew Riggs at the Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac KHSAA State Golf Championship on Saturday.

The Hopkinsville senior opened play Friday at the Bowling Green Country Club with a respectable round of 12-over par 84. After a slow start on the back nine with a score of 44, Riggs bounced back to record five pars and a birdie on the front nine to come back with a 40.

After playing in sunny weather with a slight breeze on Friday, the weather on Saturday was 30 degrees colder and much more windy.

Only 24% of the field posted a better score in Saturday’s second round than Friday. Riggs couldn’t recapture the fine play he exhibited over the final month of the golf season on Saturday. He managed only two pars and finished with a round of 99, which left him 39 shots over par for both days and an 87the place finish.

However, Riggs’ senior season saw him finish in the top 10 twice, claim third place at the region meet, and qualify for his first state tournament.
