Under the current configuration, only two programs have won a girls 2nd Region soccer championship, those being Henderson County and Madisonville-North Hopkins. Henderson County is the defending champ having won the last two titles.

The question becomes is this the year, that University Heights, Trigg County, or someone else breaks through and ends the reign of those two teams at the top of the region. We will find out this week as the 2nd Region tournament gets underway Monday at Henderson County High School.

Monday night’s action gets started at 5:30 when 6th District champ Henderson County (10-8-0) faces 7th District runner-up Hopkins County Central (7-12-0). The two teams met back in the season opener with the Lady Colonels claiming a 7-1 win.

The 7:30 contest Monday has 5th District champion Trigg County (17-2-0) battling 8th District runner-up Hopkinsville (9-8-2). The Lady Wildcats got all the way to the championship match last season before falling to Henderson County. Trigg County knocked off Hopkinsville 4-2 on September 25.

Tuesday night play gets underway at 5:30 when 7th District champ Madisonville-North Hopkins (9-8-1) takes on 5th District runner-up Lyon County (11-6-2). The Lady Maroons traveled to Eddyville on September 9 and came away with a 6-1 win.

The final quarterfinal match Tuesday at 7:30 will pit 8th District champion University Heights (16-2-1) up against 6th District runner-up Union County (3-16-0). The two teams did not meet during the regular season. Their last meeting was back seven years ago, October 6, 2016, and the Lady Blazers rolled to an 11-1 win.

The regional semifinals are set for Wednesday at 5:30 and 7:30, with the regional championship match to be played Thursday at 5:30pm.
