Christian County shook off a 1-0 deficit in the first half and went on to post a 4-1 victory over Trigg County in the boys’ 2nd Region soccer tournament Tuesday night at Donley Field in Madisonville.

The 5th District champion Wildcats (2-10-2) played well early.

Trigg got off four shots in the first 20 minutes and took a 1-0 lead when Marlee Reeves scored with 24:38 left in the first half.

Peyton Moore slipped the ball to Reeves, who outdueled a Christian defender at the top of the box for possession, then unleashed a blast from in close to put the Wildcats up 1-0.

But Christian (8-10), runner-up from the 8th District, began to take control of the contest over the final 15 minutes of the first half.

Trigg did not have a shot over that time while the Colonels scored two goals to get to halftime with a 2-1 advantage.

The Colonels took advantage of a Trigg turnover deep in its own end to tie the game. Christian Lopez came up with the ball and blistered a shot from the top of the box that curled inside the right post. That came with 13:11 left in the first half and made it a 1-1 game.

Christian stuck again just before halftime. Leland Creamer chipped home a crossing pass from the corner from Noah Davis to push the Colonels in front 2-1. That came with just 1:05 left before the break and proved to be the game-winning goal.

Christian added a pair of insurance tallies in the second half.

Davis picked up a goal of his own with 29:57 to play when he finished in front following a corner kick. That made it 3-1.

Tyler Stokes picked up a goal with 24:51 left when his header in the box following a corner kick was mishandled in front of the net and slipped across the line for a goal.

Christian finished the night with a 20-7 advantage in shots.

Mason Malone had two saves in goal for the Colonels.

Cameron McCormick made eight saves in the Trigg net.

Christian County advances to face Henderson County in Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. regional semifinal contest.

Henderson (12-4-3) routed Hopkins County Central 10-0 in Tuesday’s other first round matchup.
