Liam Coen Says Cats Aren’t Going to Stop Passing

It doesn’t matter whether it is a close loss or a blowout loss like Kentucky suffered at Georgia last week because UK offensive coordinator Liam Coen says they all hurt.

“They are all about the same,” Coen said after practice Tuesday. “This one is sitting in here (as he points to his stomach) for a lot of these guys.

“We watched it (the Georgia game) and had a good ownership meeting. The players were mostly the ones doing the talking. But it (the loss) is sitting here and that usually doesn’t go away until you play the next game.”

That next game will be Saturday night against Missouri and Coen knows the UK passing game has to be better than it was against Florida and Georgia.

“I think we throw and catch a little better during the week of practice than we end up doing on Saturday,” Coen said. “Can’t really always point to why, as to one reason or another. It’s just overall execution.

“Pitching, catching, running the right route at the right depth and just making some throws and being in the right timing and rhythm and making the right decisions. I think we’ve made the right decisions for the most part on Saturday (at Georgia). At the end of the day, we just have to make those throws and make those catches.”

Coen hopes a complete offensive game is coming and knows the Cats will need that against Missouri, which lost for the first time last week when LSU rallied from 15 points behind to win.

“You saw some of it against Florida, in one part of the game. We ran it really well,” Coen said. “But the pass game took a little bit of a hit and wasn’t quite clicking.

“It’s just coming back to work every day. These kids are not going to quit, coaches aren’t going to quit. We’re not going to say we haven’t thrown the ball well, let’s stop throwing it.”

  1. How could everyone have been so wrong on Leary? An SEC quarterback can’t miss receivers who are alone on the field as bad as he has. Teams may start putting 9 in the box against us if they are watching our game film.

  2. I hope we don’t read after the season about how leary was injured but played through it.
