Nick Mingione keeps piling up the wins at Kentucky and athletics director Mitch Barnhart wants to make sure he keeps doing that.

Kentucky finally officially announced Friday that Mingione had signed a contract extension through the 2028 season, a deal that was first reported a week ago.

Mingione has won 40 or more games in two of his seven seasons at UK (there have only been seven 40-win seasons in school history)  and twice won NCAA Regional championships.

“My family and I are excited and thankful to continue building a championship baseball program at the University of Kentucky,” Mingione said in a release from UK. “This is a testament to the players and staff over our seven years here and those who came before us.”

“I appreciate Mr. Barnhart and Dr. Capilouto for the opportunity they have given me to lead our young men as students, in life and in baseball. The Big Blue Nation has embraced Christen, Reeves and me in truly remarkable fashion and we look forward to the years ahead.”

He has won 216 games in seven seasons and ranks third on Kentucky’s all-time wins list behind Keith Madison and Gary Henderson. He has the second-highest winning percentage (.590) of any coach with at least 100 career games at Kentucky.

Last year his team reached the Super Regional before losing to eventual national champion LSU.

Mingione has had 36 players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft and 11 all-Americans. His players have also excelled in the classroom and earned numerous academic honors. He’s had a conference-best 233 players earn all-SEC academic honors, including a league-high 34 in 2020 and 39 in 2021.
