Jasper Johnson has been on a steady upward trajectory with his basketball career and recently became one of only 10 players in the 2025 recruiting class given a five-star ranking by 247Sports.
He helped Woodford County reach the state semifinals last season as a sophomore before recently transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Mo., so he could concentrate more on elevating his game.
The 6-4 southpaw guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game at Peach Jam, the summer classic that attracts the nation’s best high school players. He just got back from a USA Basketball junior national team minicamp that had 80 of the nation’s best prep players.
He was also at Big Blue Madness Friday night along with a number of other UK prospects.
He has scholarship offers from Kentucky, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Baylor, Kansas, Louisville, Missouri, North Carolina, Arizona State, Auburn, California, Cincinnati, Florida State, Indiana, LSU, Memphis, Texas A&M, USC and Xavier. Others who have been in contact include Arkansas, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
“I think I am about ready to drop my top 10 list,” Johnson, the son of former UK all-SEC defensive end Dennis Johnson, said on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Talk. “I just think I know who the top schools are.
“A lot of schools are contacting me a lot and telling me I am at the top of their list. I won’t go into any names but when I drop my top 10 you will see who is prioritizing me. It’s just about finding the right fit.”
He now plans to make his college choice by the end of next summer and says it will probably come at Peach Jam if he’s ready to do so by then.
“Then it will give me my senior year to lock in on basketball,” Johnson said.
He noted reclassifying to the 2024 recruiting class is “always an option” but it is not something he is contemplating.
“As of right now I will be staying with the 2025 class and that will help me overall, so I think I will just stay in the ’25 class,” Johnson said.

A bit of a head scratcher – this isn’t like the kid from Richmond who went to Bama to play FB – Jasper has actual UK DNA and blue blood coursing thru his veins !?
