
After a two-year hiatus from the top spot in the 7th District tournament, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers are looking to return to the throne in 2023. The 7th District tournament gets underway Monday evening at Hopkins County Central High School.
Madisonville-North Hopkins won the last two district crowns. The two wins by the Lady Maroons ended a run for the Caldwell County Lady Tigers that began with the current configuration of the 7th District coming into play in 2010. Caldwell County won every district title from 2010 through 2020.
Tournament action gets underway Monday at 6:00 when Madisonville-North Hopkins (11-20) takes on Hopkins County Central (8-15). The two teams split their regular season meetings. The Lady Maroons won three sets to one at Mortons Gap, while Central returned the favor by the same score at Madisonville.
The winner of Monday night’s semifinal will take on Caldwell County (14-17) in the championship match Tuesday at 6:00pm.
Caldwell County beat Madisonville 3-0 and 3-1 in district play, but lost to the Lady Maroons 2-1 in the wRECk at the Plex.
The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Storm 3-0 at Central and then won 3-1 in Princeton.
