The question going into the 8th District volleyball tournament is can anything or anyone stop the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers from picking up their sixth straight district title. The Lady Blazers have steamrolled through the district during the regular season and enter the postseason not only as the district favorite, but the regional favorite as well.

You have to go back to the 2017 tournament to find the last time the Lady Blazers did not win the title. That season, Hopkinsville won the championship, turning back UHA in five sets.

The 2023 tournament gets underway Monday evening at 6pm as fourth-seeded Hopkinsville (7-22) takes on fifth-seeded Fort Campbell (2-18). The Lady Tigers won 3-0 and 3-0 in district play and then won 2-1 in the wRECk at the Plex.

Monday night’s winner will advance to Tuesday night’s second semifinal at 7:30 to take on top-seeded University Heights (31-2). The Lady Blazers swept both teams in both district contests this season.

Tuesday night’s first semifinal at 5:30 will have second-seeded Christian County (18-10) squaring off against third-seeded Heritage Christian Academy (12-18). Heritage is making its first-ever appearance in the 8th District tournament. The Lady Colonels swept the Lady Warriors in each of their two district matches this season.

The district championship match is set for Thursday at 6pm.

This year’s tournament is being played at Heritage Christian.
