Emmie Underwood continued to crash the high school cross country party for Fort Campbell on Saturday even though the seventh grader may not understand what the idiom means.
Underwood set a new Fort Campbell school record for the 5,000-meter run at Saturday’s Graves County Eagle Classic in Mayfield.
She covered the 3.1-mile course in 18:44 to win by over a minute. Her time bested the previous mark of 19:02 established by Charis Botehlo in 2001. Just nine races into her first varsity season, Underwood already owns five of the school’s eight fastest times.
The win was her sixth of the season and helped the Lady Falcons to a fifth-place team finish.
Makayla Finn finished in 17th place at 22:46. Sophia McDonald came in 32nd place with a time of 25:54. Emma Pirner was 35th (26:55), Thea McDonald was 36th (26:55), and Sophia Thompson was 37th (27:07).
