Kentucky basketball recruiting could get a big start to its 2024 recruiting class on Friday.
That’s when five-star combo guard Boogie FLand of White Plains, N.Y., will announce his college choice at 2 p.m. EST at Archbishop Stepinac High School.
He’s a top 20 player in his recruiting class and has narrowed his college choices to Kentucky, Alabama, and Indiana.
The 6-3, 170-pound Fland was a gold medalist for the 2022 USA Basketball U17 National Team.
He recently sat down with Krysten Peek, NBA draft analyst for Yahoo Sports and Rivals.com contributor, to talk about what he tried to show NBA scouts at a recent USA Basketball all-star camp.
“That I am a leader and I can stand out when I am playing with good players. I feel like when you are playing with good players your mindset is to score, do this, do that just to stand out. I feel like there is more to basketball than just scoring,” Fland told Peek.
“Just get everybody involved, making sure you are a good teammate, helping, clapping, just doing the little things. That is what they (NBA scouts) are looking for When you go to the NBA are you going to be the one scoring or will somebody already there be doing the scoring, so you have to do something different.”
He told Peek it was a “privilege and honor” to be at the USA Basketball camp.
Fland also told her he wanted to “feel wanted” by the school he picked. He said Calipari told him not everyone was right for Kentucky.
“He wants people to come in as freshmen and play against 23, 24, 25-year-olds. You are not just playing against little kids anymore,” Fland told Peek. “You are playing against people older and have been there. He says if you are not ready to be in that fire, don’t come. If you are, he says come on son.”
He also knows there is no guarantee about what a 2024-25 roster will look like no matter which school he picks.
“You could commit the last day and the roster could change. You don’t know. You are taking a risk and just hope it (your choice) is the right one,” Fland said.

He will not come to UK, based on the fact that Vaught doesn’t even know his name. Mr. vaught, the name is Fland, not Land.
Glad you ignored the headline Ron and all the correct references in the story and found the one that I either I goofed or autocorrect changed. Wish I could be like you and never make a mistake I guess
