If there is one player on Kentucky’s offense that has lived up to the hype this season it is Vanderbilt transfer Ray Davis.
Not only has he been Kentucky’s best offensive weapon but he has been the best running back in the Southeastern Conference. Even in last week’s loss to Missouri he still ran for 128 yards on 20 carries, his third 100-yard game this season and 12th of his career.
He’s the first UK player to score a touchdown in the first seven games of a season and first UK player to score a touchdown in seven straight games within the same season since Randall Cobb in 2009 and first to score a TD in seven straight games since Benny Snell scored the last six games of the 2017 season and the first game of 2018.
Davis hopes the bye week will help the Cats get back on track after two straight losses.
“This is the SEC. You are playing really good teams and guys who can play on Sundays,” Davis said.
He said players have to watch game film and put the Missouri loss behind them to prepare for Tennessee Oct. 28.
“Right now it is about doing what we can do and controlling what we can. Guys will understand how close we are to being the team we can be,” Davis said. “I have played the game for a while. I understand how important bye weeks are.
“I understand some players relax and take time off and you have vets who attack. We have got guys who understand the ability we have. Some guys have got to learn that themselves. You can’t be spoon fed.
“These guys are going to come back hungry. Unfortunately penalties hurt us (against Missouri). You take away those penalties and the outcome is different. We just have to learn to play smarter and better.”
