Trigg’s Fourth Place Region Finish Qualifies Them For the State XC Meet (w/PHOTOS)

The Trigg County cross country team qualified for next week’s state meet with a fourth-place finish at the region race Saturday in Owensboro.

The Wildcats totaled 127 points to finish 14 points ahead of both Hopkins County Central and Hopkinsville to claim the fourth and final qualifying spot.

The Wildcats were in fifth place at the 2-mile mark but several runners were able to make strategic moves in the final mile to move into the fourth spot.

Riley Thompson led the Wildcat runners with a ninth-place finish in 18:31. Brody Renfroe, in just his second cross country race, finished the 20th spot in 19:39.

Matthew Reeves ran a personal best time of 19:46 and brought home a 22nd-place finish.

Dekon Perry was 40th in a personal-best time of 21:42, followed by Travis Cavanaugh in 42nd (21:59), Grant Gallogly in 44th (22:40), and Marlee Reeves in 47th place in 23:47.

Webster County’s Brice Nelson won the race in 16:50. Paducah Tilghman won the team title with 31 points.

The Wildcats will run in the class 2A state cross country meet Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
