Emmie Underwood continued her cross country dominance with a region championship Saturday in Owensboro.

The Fort Campbell seventh grader became the first Lady Falcon in 12 years to win a region title. Katie Lever accomplished the feat in 2011.

Underwood nearly led wire to wire and pulled away from Murray’s Jade Green over the final mile to win by one minute, 46 seconds in a time of 19:22 – faster than both the Class 2A and 3A champion on the same course Saturday.

Three-time defending region champion Gabby Ault of St. Mary was third.

The win was Underwood’s seventh of the season and helped Fort Campbell finish as region runner-up. They will compete at the Class 1A state meet in Lexington next weekend.

Makayla Finn was the second Lady Falcon across the finish line in 23:54. Sophia McDonald was 17th in 25:13 – a personal best time by 24 seconds.

Ava Roberts was 23rd (26:02), Emma Pirner in 25th place (27:21), Sophia Thompson in 26th place (28:05); and Thea McDonald in 36th place (30:21).

As a team, Fort Campbell totaled 67 points to finish second to Murray’s score of 46. Crittenden County and Dawson Springs tied for third place with 73 points.
