
University Heights Academy senior Julia Thomas has been named the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Region Player of the Year based on voting by the coaches on regular season play.
Thomas, who has given a verbal to play her college volleyball at Florida International University, ended the regular season with 280 kills, 81 blocks, and 53 aces.
For her career, Thomas entered the postseason with 1,089 kills, 322 blocks, and 123 aces — all are at or near the top of UHA’s career stat lists.
Meanwhile, Lady Blazer head coach Faye Hendricks was named the region coach of the year. UHA won a sixth straight district title and entered this week’s region tournament with a 33-2 record, establishing a new school record for wins in a season. In 12 seasons as UHA coach, Hendricks is 226-191. Twice, UHA has won 30 games and the Lady Blazers are 79-29 over the past three seasons.
Thomas and Hendricks will be honored with the other region winners at the 2023 KHSAA State Tournament at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester during ceremonies between the semi-final matches on Saturday, November 4.
